This past year was an amazing one for our community and we know that 2017 will be even better, but before we move full steam ahead into the New Year we want to take a minute and reflect on an incredible 2016. As a company, we had the privilege of being involved in and supporting a long list of organizations that have really helped shape Fort Wayne into the city it is today. Thank you to all of the companies and individuals who have been a part of our memorable 2016 and who have let us be a part of theirs!
NeoCon 2016 has come and gone, and this year was nothing short of a whirlwind. It’s amazing how quickly NeoCon approaches each year, but before you know it, your two full days of viewing new products, socializing with your reps and enjoying the beautiful city of Chicago are over.
As our two interior designers and I were prepping for our fourth year at NeoCon together, we commented on the fact that the NeoCon process was definitely something that we’ve fine-tuned but no matter how many times you attend this event you have to mentally prepare yourself for the fast paced and sometimes overwhelming design environment. Whether you are ready for it or not, the hustle and bustle of the Merchandise Mart as soon as you walk through that revolving door really just hits you in the face. However, it doesn’t take more than two minutes to get your mind right and become NeoCon focused.
We started NeoCon off by going and visiting a few of our favorite reps in their beautiful showrooms. It didn’t take long for us to figure out that patterns and bold colors were going to be the reoccurring theme at this year’s show. It is really refreshing to see flooring, wallcovering, fabric and furniture companies stepping outside the box with their products after having to play it safe the past couple of years. It is safe to say that the design industry is back!
Every other year the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Indiana Chapter holds their Avant Garb Fashion Show in Indianapolis, but this is not any ordinary fashion show. Teams for the event are made up of partnerships between manufacturers and either one company or employees from multiple companies in both Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Each team of six or less members have the goal to create a fashion garment using their manufacturers’ unique and upcycled materials, which means that there are outfits constructed out of anything from rubber base to wallcovering.
The challenge doesn’t stop there.
As we look forward to a shiny new year, all of us here at Strahm want to take a minute and reminisce about the memories of 2015 that we not only shared within our company, but also our community. At the end of 2014 we made a decision to redirect the use of our “Marketing Dollars”. Instead of using this capital towards ads, commercials and billboards that would focus directly on bringing attention to Strahm, we decided to invest it in sponsoring local events, philanthropies and businesses. There were many reasons for the decision to go in this direction. The biggest reason was to show support, through funding and personally attending events as a company, for organizations that help make our city so wonderful. Here is a look at a majority of what Strahm was involved with in 2015!
